You will begin seeing a pop-up message on your computer notifying you if you’ve gone longer than seven (7) days without backing up (syncing). We will ask you to sync your files weekly (see quicklink above), to ensure all files are moved properly. To prepare for your scheduled migration, it’s important to periodically sync your files (back them up). This may alter your current collaboration process, but we’re confident the small learning curve will be worth the added benefits. OneDrive will also check for other file or folder changes and may show. This includes when you are uploading files, or OneDrive is syncing new files from the cloud to your PC. After your files move to the cloud, you will be able to save and access files from your computer the way you always have.įor those who collaborate with others on files, the new features will allow for greater flexibility in real-time collaboration when you’re working on docs via the online portal. The circular arrows over the OneDrive or OneDrive for work or school notification icons signify that sync is in progress. This migration to the cloud eliminates the need for that manual process in the future, ensuring your files are always securely backed up at all times. Staff working from home or away from a campus network currently have to connect to the VPN and manually sync their files to the server in order to back up their work and prevent data loss. Most of the work will be happening behind the scenes, without you even knowing it. All UCI Microsoft Office 365 users have access to 5tb of storage in Microsoft OneDrive. OneDrive has been approved for use for UCI data by UCOP and the UCI Information Security team, when appropriate file sharing protections are used. Microsoft OneDrive is online storage space in the cloud.
